4 Group Performances - Covers
This was Saxona, Dan and my cover of One Way Or Another by Blondie.
We chose this for our 1970's cover as we realised how important and how influential Blondie was in the 1970's. We had Dan playing a strong riff with distortion to fit the 1970's style of music. My drumming style was very fast paced, which was also very prominent in the 1970's.
I think, as a whole this song was well performed and we all knew our parts very well. The song was in time and all the different parts to the song fit in well and was flush. However I have to say, an area in which we weren't so good was in communicating with each other, we didn't look at each other that much so therefore we were on the edge a bit. More communication would have resulted in a better performance.
This was Saxona, Dan and my cover of I Want to Hold Your Hand by The Beatles.
The Beatles were, in no doubt, the iconic figure in the 1960's so we decided to cover this song as it performed by such a well known band. However we decided to go for this song instead of some of their most well known songs as we wanted to show how The Beatles have produced so many hits.
The bass plays a huge part in this song and keeps the song moving. It plays a lead melody with the vocals. I thought we played it very well and worked well as a team. I tried to keep my drumming very basic as the original was also basic, and I think playing intricate grooves in this song will stop the flow of the song, with the bass being drowned out.
This was Saxona, Dan and my cover of Never Forget You by Noisettes.
This song was performed in 2009 and we wanted to do this so that we could show the difference in pop music with Blondie's - One Way or Another and this song. It worked well, and I decided to put a tambourine on my hi hat to create a more of a happy and vibrant feel, which is the style of the song. It is a feel good song and we wanted to try and get this across by using fun and simple music to dance along to.
We worked well as a team and our communicating throughout the song was much better. The style of the song also made us happy and were more engaged with the song. What we could have done better was to sharpen or own individual parts up, as we didn't have a long time to practise this song and it was all a rush. Maybe meeting up out of lesson time could have helped us learn our parts better, or maybe even just practising at home more.
