Unit 347 - Planning For A Career In Music

Job Role: Session Musician Education: You aren't required tohave any degrees or grades for a particular instrument or Music Performing, however you are more likely to get given work and be well thought of if you have a high grade in your instrument and have studied music at University. Training: Training is mostly about developing your skill set and being more competent in your instrument and always learning new things so that you can spread your wings and be able to accept and draw in new opportunities which you couldn't do before hand. Experience: This is to do with how many gigs or shows you have performed in, what styles and genres you have played in and what education you have had as a session musician. Career Progression: The speed of your career progression depends on how you promote yourself, the better you promote yourself and the more links you have in the music industry will alter how quickly and how you are viewed by employees. Unit 358 - Rehearsal Skills

Image
Assessing my Practical Habits, Now and Start of the Course. Completing this True or False table made me realise how much effort I put into my practises, but it has also shown me where I can improve, for example it made it evident that I need to improve with sight reading and getting better at practising my theory side to my instrument. Evidence Of Rehearsals: Diary Entry 1: Wednesday Jan 11th 2017 Today I met up with my band, Three Finger Salute, for our first rehearsal for the end of year gig at the end of May. Today's rehearsal was mostly used to pick the set list, making sure that the order and choice of songs will work well, understanding whether there are a wide range of different skills that I can use and demonstrate to make sure I have the best possible chance of having a good grade. We decided on four songs and the order of these. However we decided, in order for a wider range of skills and techniques that we'd crete a new original, whi...

Unit 359 - Live Music Performance

Solo Recital Set List: Roll With It - Oasis Eton Mess - Three Finger Salute Louie Louie - The Kingsmen Couldn't Stand The Weather - Stevie Ray Vaughan Cherry - Three Finger Salute Reasoning Behind My Choices: I decided to go for both our originals and covers in order to show how I have interpreted key features from different songs and artists and have used that to give me inspiration in coming up with my own drum part in our songs, but also being able to have my own, fresh ideas. Also these songs all use different techniques and they all sound very different in their styles. For example Roll With It is a classic Brit Pop song, with a driving, happy vibe throughout the song. Whereas Couldn't Stand The Weather, is a more funky rock song which has a lot of dimensions to the song, which doesn't follow the usual Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus structure. This brings fresh new ideas to the table and makes the song sound much more interesting and musically bette...

318 Listening to Music

318 - Listening to Music Survey: I made a survey on survey monkey ( https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/N62PC9B ) asking people questions about their Music Taste and tried to get a more in depth answer than just 'yes' or 'no' or one word answers. I did this by asking why they thought of that answer and going into more detail on an motional level as to why they chose their answer. I mostly targeted my peers but also to a few adults to answer as it gives me more diverse answers as the respondents are all coming from different eras meaning different music was popular for them. Here are my questions in order with the key responses.  1. What is your favourite genre of music?  Respondent 1: Classical and Rock. Respondent 2: Alternative. Respondent 3: Pop. 2. Why do you like this genre? What effect does it have on you? Respondent 1: Strong links to my childhood experiences. Respondent 2: I like it because it doesn't fit into ...
